Highways objection

Highways objection on your planning application?

Send us the consultation response. We will tell you honestly whether it can be answered, and prepare the reply.

How it works

Three steps, no wasted effort.

Read it

We work out what is actually being asked: missing information, a design point, or an objection in principle.

Talk to the officer

A short call often makes clear what would resolve it, and saves a round of comments.

Reply

A focused technical note, with drawings where needed, that takes each point in turn.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Can every objection be overcome?

No. Sometimes the right answer is a change to the scheme. We will tell you which, early, so you do not spend money on the wrong reply.

How quickly can you respond?

Usually within days. If the determination date is close, we will help you agree an extension of time with the case officer.

What if the application has already been refused?

Send us the decision notice. We can tell you whether the highways reason is likely to stand up at appeal.

In practice

How we answer an objection

A highways objection is the highway authority’s view, not the decision. The planning officer weighs it, and it usually turns on a short list of points that can be answered with evidence, a design change or a condition.

We start by sorting the points: which are matters of fact, which need more information, and which are matters of judgement. Then we reply in the officer’s own terms, so the response can be accepted without another round.

  • A clear view, early, on whether the objection can be overcome.
  • A technical note that answers each point in turn, with drawings where needed.
  • A call or meeting with the highway officer where that will settle things faster.
