Private clients and smaller developments

Equestrian and rural access transport advice.

Access and transport advice for stables, riding schools and rural leisure sites, including horseboxes, trailers, parking and narrow lanes.

Rural access often needs more thought than a gate width on a plan. We help owners and design teams test whether visitors, horseboxes, deliveries and everyday users can reach and use the site safely.

01

Understand the actual activity

A private stable, a livery business and a riding school generate different journeys. We establish horses, staff, customers, lesson patterns, deliveries and any events before estimating movements.

Competition days or seasonal peaks may be more important than a typical weekday. We agree which operating conditions need to be assessed rather than using an unrelated traffic profile.

02

Access, visibility and passing

We review the access geometry, available visibility, gradients, gates and room for a towing vehicle to wait clear of the carriageway. Where speeds determine the design, we scope a suitable speed survey.

On narrow lanes, we consider passing opportunities and the interaction with walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Land ownership and access rights need confirmation by the client and legal adviser.

03

Make the site layout work

Vehicle tracking can test a horsebox or car and trailer against the entrance, turning area and parking layout. The agreed vehicle dimensions and operational assumptions are recorded.

We coordinate advice on deliveries and emergency access with the wider team. Any proposed passing place or highway alteration must be deliverable within the available land and relevant consent process.

04

Your brief and our fee

Send the site plan, proposed activity and hours, visitor or horse numbers, expected vehicles and photographs of the route. Include any planning or highways comments and any events proposed.

We confirm the deliverables, information needed, programme and fee before starting. Survey costs, third party charges and additional design or consultation are identified in the scope. We do not promise a council decision date or an approval.
