Journey time and origin and destination surveys.
Survey scoping for travel times, route choice and origin and destination studies, including specialist ANPR collection where appropriate.
Sometimes the question is where traffic goes or how long the journey takes. We help establish the evidence needed without assuming that a count at one location can describe the whole route.
Define what the study needs to establish
We agree the cordon or route, entry and exit points, time periods and journey definitions. Journey time work may concern delay along a corridor; an origin and destination study may examine movements between observation points.
Observed links between points do not automatically identify the ultimate origin, destination or purpose of a journey. Those limitations should be clear in the report.
Select a proportionate method
Specialist methods can include matched observations, journey time runs or suitable existing datasets. ANPR may be appropriate for some studies, but equipment coverage, matching windows and sample quality need careful specification.
Registration data requires appropriate data protection arrangements, an agreed lawful basis, transparency and controlled retention. We coordinate these requirements with the client and specialist contractor before collection.
Check matching and reporting
We review collection coverage, matching rates, anomalies and the treatment of incomplete journeys. Survey results should distinguish observed journeys from assumptions or factored totals.
The analysis can inform routing, distribution or corridor assessments. Forecasting development trips and assessing network effects remain separate tasks where required.
Your brief and our fee
Send the area or route, the problem to be tested, required time periods and the intended users of the results. We will compare practical collection options and define the contractor and analysis scope.
We confirm the deliverables, information needed, programme and fee before starting. Survey costs, third party charges and additional design or consultation are identified in the scope. We do not promise a council decision date or an approval.
