Check the 2024 parking guidance and its local application
The Essex Design Guide publishes 2024 parking guidance in two parts: general development guidance and an approach for Garden Communities and large scale development. It includes connectivity evidence and updates car, cycle and other parking considerations. The guide identifies the previous 2009 standard as withdrawn.
Do not choose a parking number before establishing which part of the guidance applies and how the relevant authority uses it. Where a lower provision is proposed, explain the transport choices and the measures that will be available when occupiers arrive.
The access and street layout still need to work alongside the parking strategy. Test servicing, cycle storage, pedestrian routes and the space occupied by charging infrastructure before treating a layout as settled.
